Applied chemistry laboratory

Chemical tests of performance conformity on finished products, semi-finished products and raw materials.

DSC01726

The Applied Chemistry laboratory performs chemical conformity tests on textiles, leathers, metal materials and items in plastic polymers, whether finished products, semi-finished products or raw materials. The activity includes all of the microscopic and chemical testing to identify fibrous compounds for performance tests carried out on all of the matrices described above.

Below, as examples, are some of the main parameters examined:

Performance conformity tests on textiles and leather
  • Dye fastness for textile and leather products
  • Dimensional changes in fabrics and items made up after washing in water and solvent
  • Flammability
  • Determination of pH
Conformity tests for the identification of fibre compositions
  • Quality and quantity composition of fibres
  • Quantitative analysis of quality fibres (e.g., cashmere, mohair…) and their blends with wool or other fibres
Performance conformity tests on metals (metal accessories, fashion jewellery, jewellery, watches, eyewear)
  • Measurement of coating thickness (XRF)
  • Metallographic sections and SEM-EDX tests
  • Corrosion tests
  • Crash test
  • Sweat resistance test
  • Exposure to moist heat
